 Post subject: FINALLY finished map making! Thank god.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy map making. But 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for over a month without a single day off has been tough. Towards the end I was starting to have map making dreams where the tiles would never quite line up right. Horrible nightmares!! Anyway I finally finished the final official map today and can move on to something different. Hooray! Version 1.09 won't be long now.

We will have 9 official maps for v1.09, and I'll add more over time. I just finished working on a pretty sexy new map called Turbine. It is based on Nightfall's awesome map Bridge, but is smaller with different routes between the spawns. It's going to play great and it expands on Nighfall's by-the-water Dam theme with all sorts of sexiness. Wind, waves, seagulls... very thematic.

All the new maps are going to look and play a lot nicer next version. I'm very happy with how these graphical changes have turned out. The soft shadows, animated fog, ambient occlusion, specularity and models all come together in these 9 maps and look like a whole new game. We'll have to take a whole new bunch of screenshots! Anyway I will be looking for feedback on the new maps, both gameplay and graphics. They're 95% awesome now, but with your help we can perfect them before the Steam release.

Great to hear the maps are done!

Be sure to release a playtest version with those maps so we can iron out any issues we find before full release!

No problemo! Both version will be in v1.09. I even touched up Bridge a bit for the new lighting system. I think Bridge and Turbine should be viewed as different maps as they play so differently. Bridge is better for huge servers and Outbreak I think as it's larger with more diverse environments. Turbine should play a bit faster than Bridge for general PvP combat however, and of course I've put way more effort into the sexiness ;) Anyway will be good to have both maps in the game.
