Subvein version 0.6 has been released!

It's here!! Subvein v0.6 is finally out. Download it now!
This version improves upon the last in every single way. It's got vehicles, skills, new game modes, a fully functional account system, community credits, permanent characters, new maps, improved AI, a sexy menu, HUD and more. Just go play it!

Over the next few weeks we'll see a lot more players. I'll also be releasing a lot more maps and updates. This is the rebirth of Subvein. If you like the game, please go spread the word. If you want to help out in any way at all, read the community page to find out how.

I really want to thank all those who have helped out over the past 8 months. I know it's been a lonnnng wait, so thanks for sticking with the game. Thanks to all the playtesters who have helped make this version extra smooth and polished.

Anyway, that's enough reading. There's still plenty more Subvein development to look forward too, but for now.. just have fun!

You've done an amazing job, Ben. Take my congratulations. I admire your game making skills.

After my first 2 hours in v0.6 I noticed some minor bugs with skills (probably those problems were caused by lags, the server was in the usa, im not sure at the moment) and some holes in the netcode when player drive a car (especially collisions). But the game is 200% playable even with these "problems". They are a bit annoying but nothing else. I hope they will be resolved in the end, maybe in 1.1 or 1.0 :).

New gameplay is fun as hell. And now the game have an enourmous amount of tactical twiddydinkies, I mean The BARRIER (sometimes I do really forget about it), cover-behind-the-cars, Battlefield 2 style of Drive-by and shooting from the back of pickup, The Torpedo (it's way too cheap but god bless Torpedo - it is completely awesome) etc etc...

By the way I love new skills' tree. Pretty balanced.

The only thing Subvein need in the near future is expanding. More VEHICLES (tanks plz), more maps (we are working on it), more weapon-gadgets (mines, turrets, flamers, lazors - everything will be applied and fun to the max), any kind of soundtrack and finally new game modes (co-op ftw). And this will be The Game of anyone dream.

Do I need to say about ambient, particles, hud and such? Oh, they are epicly mind-blowing awesome.

I won't be taking any long breaks though. With so many people offering to help out, spread the word, host servers.. I'd feel guilty not to do all I can to get this off the ground ;)

And don't worry, plenty more micro updates to come. No more bigggg long breaks anymore. I hope to do weekly updates, even if it's just a few weapon/skill balances. But ideally I want to keep making enough vehicles so the respect leaders (currently Pukis and STM) always have something to look foward to. Always new maps, new skills.. lots more cool stuff to look forward to! Though right now, my main priority is trying to secure servers and make sure all the new players have a lag-free fun experience.

Is that possible in Subvein v1.0 (or even sooner)? Yes, I mean weapons customisation. Or I should be patient as buddha and wait until some bigass addon (not completely free ofc)? Plz let my doubts go away.

Do you realize how happy this makes me? I really want to play this again, but alas I'm on my horrible laptop. When I get back to my PC, I might try hosting servers again and/or recruit more people to play the game.

Just thought I'd extend my gratification to you Ben Johnson, you have an amazing idea here and I can see it really taking off and being a successful indie game. I would suggest that you add your game to steam http://www.steampowered.com. Getting your game on as many gaming networks as you can would make this game a hit. Everyone loves free games, alien swarm is a free game on steam and I don't know one person that hasn't played it. You could make that "13 players online now!" a "1000+ players online now", I'm fairly confident that gaming networks would love to feature your game. I'm not a major player of this game but I love to play now and again. I could see myself becoming more of a lifer when the game progresses further. To me the biggest flaw in this game is the lack of a solid player base. Servers rarely get full (when I'm on at least), if there were more servers with more players to fill them this game would have a much stronger appeal to me and I'm sure many others.

Yeh i agree Steam addition would make a huge impact on the subvein community in the amount of clients and or servers, i have spoken to a fair few friends in steam who keep asking me what other games do i play apart from Left For Dead series and what i would recommend.

I have pointed out Subvein to about a dozen ppl in the past 9 or so days, but it makes it hard to give them the URL and waiting for them to install the game and then find out what server they have tried to connect to as like you know alot of ppl when you ask them what server they are on will reply "I dunno i just found one, how do i find out what server i am on blah blah" and it can slow the prcoess down of jumping on a server with mates.


Where as in steam games your friends are all listed and show exactly what game theya re playing and you can select to "Join game" which loads you into the server they are on instantly (so long as it is not full.)

And yes Alien Swarm which is free made a huge impact and has left alot of ppl asking what other great games are out there on the steam network that are free, besides just mods. My guess would also be that Subvein would attract a larger group of players as you ahve more features and a wider audience to gain that the likes of alien swarm and more game types, the game is stable and easy to get into especially witht he latest update and the HUD telling ppl what keys to utilise etc it really is user friendly for those who just want to jump in the game without reading 10 pages of information.

Id love to see this game get the audience it truly deserves man and i look forward to you replying if anything comes of this with steam, or what hurdles need to be bipassed to get it on steam network.
