Update on plans and Menu Music!

Hey guys, sorry it's been so long. I've taken a bit of time to change country (moving from Argentina to cheaper and warmer Peru), and I had to see some cool stuff along the way like the Amazon and Machu Picchu. I think it's good to get this stuff out of the way now anyway as the community is quiet, because I certainly shouldn't be taking a week or 2 off to explore this stuff after the community has grown and needs supporting. After doing the Amazon and Maccu Picchu I have done everything I wanted to do in South America, and will be settled down in cheap, sunny Peru to focus on coding full time. I didn't realise it before but Argentina is too expensive for me to live, so the move to Peru is necessary as it will let me stretch my money a lot further and dedicate many more months to working on the game :)

Annnnyway I'm back at it now and have taken a quick break from the 3D models to look into menu music! I haven't created the actual music yet but I've got all the coding stuff done. I've got a new music volume slider and I've done the tricky technical work to play a new filetype - Ogg Vorbis. This was necessary because .wav files are far too large for music, so I need to use the compressed .ogg files instead. So I've got that working now and the menu music even fades in and out as you enter and leave the menu. Pretty snazzy!! A much needed addition I think.

So on to the actual music itself, I'm going to try compose it myself using a program called Caustic 3. It can be downloaded for free for PC and after you learn how to use it it seems pretty damn powerful. I've created a few basic themes but have a LOT more work to do so far... here's a very VERY basic idea of some music. Not sure if I like it or not, I think I might want it to be a bit more fast-paced. But still this is what I've got so far. Check it out!

Hah cheers :D It's still in VERY early stages at the moment. I need to make it longer and more fast-paced to reflect the intense nature of the gameplay. But I think it's got a nice dark vibe to it so far. If anyone is interested I can upload the caustic file and you guys can play around with it.

It does have that dark theme, but it seems kinda.. idk.. I'm reminded of those older arena games like Unreal Tournament and stuff, and I don't quite get that feel when I play Subvein though.. so Idk...

Yup fair enough, I feel like it needs to be faster-paced as well. This is still verrrry early stages at the moment and I welcome all suggestions. What sort of music do you feel would best represent MF?

imo you got the right idea. it feels dark, mysterious almost. When browsing through the game menu i could see the potential with the music in the background.

On another note.
Maybe make an option when you finish with menu music in the future to have a dynamic background (able to turn off this option, slow computers(; ) with some gangsters and mutants fighting in the background. i feel like it could be a nice addition to the future. Would make things interesting. Keep at it and update us soon!!

Cheers, I'll keep at it. I just need to extend it with a more upbeat section after the intro. Just finding it difficult to come up with a melody. Composing is clearly not my forte. Still it is nice to have something to listen to, even with this very early prototype. It fades in and out nicely as well. Eventually I'd like to have a dynamic music option like RTS games have, where music plays in-game and changes based on the amount of action on screen. That'd be really cool I think, though of course low priority and optional.
