I made a blog today woo!!

Why you ask? Because today I officially started working on version 1.06 and the awesome new game mode that will come with it - Chemical Warfare. I'm also just chilling out in a quiet beach town in South Africa with literally nothing to do except code, so I figured I'd start keeping a blog to show you all how productive I'm being! I think over the next month I'm going to code harder than I've ever coded before, as I have absolutely no distractions and a single focus to create this glorious game mode as soon as possible, preferably before I go on my 2 week holiday to Brazil. So after the two years it took me to release Outbreak, let's see if I can do War mode in one month. I shall code with the speed of a cheetah.. yet the endurance of an elephant.

Anyway today I started by simply creating the base for Chemical Warfare (war mode) throughout the code. There's an awful lot of behind the scenes stuff that needs to be done just to make the game mode even exist, before I actually start doing anything with it. I added buttons and options in the menu system and in the map editor. They don't do anything yet, but they're there! I also decided that I would add the ability to place default compound (control points) locations in the map editor. Just like the cash fountains in Battle mode you will be able to place multiple compound zones for war mode. The way it will work is this. If the server setttings are set to 10 compounds, the game will first try and find 10 compound locations saved in the map. It will choose from these at random. If the map only has 5 provided then the game will randomly generate the locations of the other 5. If the map has 20 provided, it will randomly choose 10 of those 20. Basically the whole point of this is so map makers have slightly more control of where the points are going to be, because they might want to design a map so that a specific location will always have a compound there and make it really hard to capture or something (like lots of sniper cover provided).

Also I've decided I'm going to call them compounds instead of control points, because it sounds pretty cool and it's a play on words. A compound is like a little base, but it's also a mixture of multiple elements in chemistry. Cool huh!
