Subvein is on Steam Greenlight!

Sat 01 Sep 2012, 06:38 by bencelot

Hey all! Today I submitted Subvein to Steam Greenlight, which is an awesome new indie gaming service. You can vote on your favourite games (Subvein!!) and increase the chances of getting it officially supported! This is a great way to get Subvein out there and introduce it to many new gamers, so please go vote, favourite and comment the Subvein page. It takes less than a minute and if we can get some early momentum we actually have a chance of getting Subvein on Steam. Can you imagine how many players we would have?? It blows my mind. If you really want to help out you could tell your Steam and Facebook friends about it as well ;)

Cheers guys!
Ben.

I'v been promoting consistently since release on Greenlight. Don't forget to SHARE the game to your steam status and any other social media you can! The more people we have sharing it and telling everyone they know the sooner it will get on steam and we will all be playing in full servers. Subvein on Steam 2012! #Subvein

Is there some easy way to share this with all your Steam friends?

Cash says:

Tue 04 Sep 2012, 13:16

You select share and post it to your status. You need to be in the Steam beta, but everyone has access to it. Just go into your steam settings and enable the beta. Only your friends who also have the beta will see it though.

Awesome write up on the Greenlight page. Should really attract many players to try it out.

Haha. Btw guys they seem to have removed the upvote/downvote functionality and replaced it with a "would you buy this if it was on Steam" button. Might have to resubmit your vote.

Cash says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 02:30

No need to resubmit votes. Unfortunately the don't show the number of views anymore. What's the current up-down vote ratio?

P.S did you have to pay the submission fee? Or is it being waived because your game was already up?

bencelot says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 02:53

I don't see the number of upvotes or downvotes. But the current stats are 4115 unique visitors and 153 favourites. But I think you can see that anyway?

How do you know that there's a submission fee? How much is it? I haven't had to pay anything, though tbh I wish I did so it'd filter out a whole bunch of other games :p

I've gotta say I'm really impressed with how actively they're updating the system. It's all very exciting :D

bencelot says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 02:57

Weird, I'm clicking on a other games and seeing "That item does not exist. It may have been removed by the author." a lot. I hope that's not happening to Subvein..

DON'T JINX IT

Cash says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 04:28

New update removed the ability for us to see views/favourites, Authors used to be able to see the ratio of up votes to down votes, there is a submission fee of $100 now, and I have no idea if games already on Greenlight will have to pay. The fee is one time for your account though, so infinite submissions after the $100. http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/editgame/?appid=765 http://store.steampowered.com/app/219820

I can't seem to be able to see the rating % anymore either.

bencelot says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 04:52

I think it only shows the rating % if you click yes I'd be willing to pay for this on Steam.

Cash says:

Wed 05 Sep 2012, 15:39

Yeah I was looking at a random game when I posted that. The percentage does become visible but only if you vote yes.

I just think that this game needs alot more work before it climbs out of the gaming shadows it as is seems more like a flash game you have to add alot more than whats already in if you whant to real in some newer players
steam does have its standarts!

Actually, he is right in some ways. The way he worded his argument is a bit mean though, or at least could be misinterpreted.
Anyway, after Outbreak the golden era will begin and that is certainly something we can all look forward to.

I don't think anything special is going to come from Outbreak. I'm here to play Subvein, not Outbreak. It's advertising that Subvein needs.

How many viewers has the greenlight page gotten now?

chross says:

Sat 29 Sep 2012, 00:52

AFTER Outbreak! Not necessarily together with Outbreak. Outbreak itself will be a milestone though.

Cash says:

Sat 29 Sep 2012, 03:06

At this point I can't really see myself looking back and remembering the release of Outbreak very fondly.

STM1993 says:

Sat 29 Sep 2012, 04:09

The big problem with Subvein's development now is a lack of decisiveness.

Very early on there are a lot of promises/plans about releasing Outbreak, but halfway through, instead of focusing on it, the development got sidetracked onto optimizations and other little features. I'm not saying that optimization nor the other new stuff are bad; no doubt we'll respond positively to them, but please do not give us false hope if you can't see one major decision through without getting sidetracked.

It also really doesn't help that there is no proof of progress on Outbreak. Remember the period between 0.55 and 0.600? There were videos of the cars and Barrier. That's the kind of decisiveness I'm talking about. If you make a promise, be sure to follow up on it, show proof of your progress, then finish it.

bencelot says:

Sat 29 Sep 2012, 06:30

To be fair I've said for quite a while now that I'll release Outbreak to mark the moment when the game is ready for advertising again, and that means more important things need to be done beforehand. But I'll give you a screenshot so you at least know that it exists :p

Keep in mind though that a screenshot doesn't really show the gameplay of Outbreak very well. The fun of the gamemode is very map dependent as that controls how the zombies swarm out at you and sets the atmosphere and mood. If you have Outbreak in the wrong map you're basically just standing there killing bots, but on the right map it'll be awesome. I've yet to make a map truely designed for Outbreak, but I'll be making 2 big ones before I release it so we have a really good experience with it. Nice and dark and scary! I'll make a teaser video once I've got one of those maps. I'll make a thread with some screenshots now though. Hold tight!

Know what you're talkin about! :D
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=983&start=20
and
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2293
are almost ready to go! Currently workin on them to make em 140% ready for upcoming zombie apocalypse. Now that we finally witnessed SCREENSHOTS, there's no doubt that Outbreak will come out soon (oh gods finally!) and it will be awesome. Coop-survival experience will makes it worth staying in the game, no matter if there are thousands of players online or not. So yea, go for it!

Also, speaking about zombie apocalypse. I think that the atmosphere is one most important things in Outbreak. But atmosphere depends on many factors such as:
1) Immersive graphical effects:
- dynamic lightning ftw, keep expanding it
- post your ideas or check old topics
2) Sound effects:
- zombie sounds (l4d as great example),
- ambient sounds (tnx to Ben we have plenty of them so that's up to map-makers)
- MUSIC! Come'on, Bence! There are thousands of people ready and waiting to make some dark ambient tracks for your game for free! Just need to post a request on forums or anywhere else... "Hi I'm Ben Johnson and I'm looking for musical artists for my new game! We need dark ambient tracks for Co-op survival modes and something for comptetive CTF-TDM modes". Great example: Metro 2033 ost which was composed mostly by freelancers. Now that I know Outbreak is actually making some progress and Subvein is being followed on Greenlight by many people - I start looking for those artists too, best place to start from is Here. Feel free to take part and post your requests too, guys!
edit: already got replies from 2 guys, stay tuned
3) Story & Art direction:
- basically the only question that should be answered is: What's goin on? The best way to deliver the answer in my opinion is some sort of comic-book art which could show us the struggle between Scientists and Rebels. And virus in general. Already sent some requests.

So yea, my 2 cents

It currently says that Subvein is "33% of the way to the top 100 list". Not really sure what that means though..

Qwertybeef says:

Sun 04 Nov 2012, 03:23

I think you need a certain number of thumbs up and/or views to get to the top 100 list...

LungJuice says:

Sun 04 Nov 2012, 05:15

Hmm I think titles in the top 100 list are the ones that can begin to get greenlit pending reviews by steam staff and then once they have been greenlit they will be removed from the list thus giving room to more titles. The % is probably subveins position relative to everyone else trying to get into the list.

Qwertybeef says:

Sun 04 Nov 2012, 19:44

Oh, That's nice to know that we're a third of the way there..

bencelot says:

Tue 06 Nov 2012, 05:47

Yup. Well a 3rd of the way to the top 100 at least. But I think this will pick up considerably once we get more players. Especially if we can direct them to go vote on it :D

Hey guys,
Might interest you to know I found subvein fairly recently (back when another game I play got submitted for greenlight) on greenlight, and I was instantly drawn to it.
Honestly, this game looks miles better than half of the crap that's trying to get greenlit, and plays like a dream. Something about it just instantly caught my eye, as I read on and noticed it was free to download and readily playable I couldn't help myself. After one or two games here and there infrequently, I played a match last night against about eight people. Cash taught me some cool tricks after :) After seeing the potential for the amount of fun you can have invis-teleport-shotgunning people and the amount intense, SKILL-based firefights I'm definitely sticking around, and I've gotta say this game seems to have one of the nicest, most welcoming communities I've come across.

This game kinda reminds me of good ol' stick arena, I don't know if any of you guys ever played it but it was one of my favourite browser games back when I was a youngling. This is like that, but with a lot more grit and just generally much better to be honest. The mechanics are awesome, the RPG-like progression system is awesome, the gameplay is fluid and... well, awesome.

I've also noticed the dev spends time talking to the community on the forums, and the vets seem friendly, which is always good!

So anyway, just a first post from one of your latest newbies. Hope to see you in-game senselessly murdering me soon! :D

TL;DR Found you through greenlight, nice game you got here :)

chross says:

welcome aboard the forums.
It is always good to see new faces here and I hope we will play a match or two soon.

Cheers,

Hey Chross,
Thanks for the welcome, looking forward to it!
Should be on later tonight once I've finished work, hopefully there'll be a few skulls for me to smash/fail at smashing.
I'll probably be telling a few of my friends about this game/share the steam link on a forum or two if I'm not too tired later, I know a lot of my mates would be into this kind of thing :D
I know a guy that runs a gaming channel on youtube and is generally up for doing reviews, it's not really a big channel but might help you guys get some more new blood. :D

Well, one more member, one more million. :D
As i play i-don't-know-how-long-but-i-think-that's-medium-time, i think after 100 years Subvein will be first of top-3.
So, if you wanna to hear something from me, i tell you i like when cool dudes like you instantly go into forums and post they ideas.
Maybe i don't came to forums instantly, but the first post i ever posted is here.
Like it? :D
I finally know how to post link and to make it have name.
