Woooo finally a new version! Version 0.696 has many new features and improvements. No Outbreak just yet but don't worry, you can start killing zombies in a few weeks. Until then here are some of the cool new improvements to check out:

Improved Netcode: The netcode has been dramatically improved to provide a fairer and more competitive playing experience. The server basically sends your bullets back in time to compensate for the lag. Cool huh? Players with high pings can now actually hit where they're aiming! Amazing!

Improved AI: The AI finally has proper path finding allowing for all sorts of cool new features. Gangsters will now squad up and charge into the enemy base taking all sorts of interesting routes. You can even go talk to a gangster by pressing E and have him follow you around the map!

Improved HUD: I'm cleaned up the HUD and menu a little bit. Nothing major but it's nice! Also added a few other features like the ability to re-buy super weapon ammo and the ability to earn permanent experience towards your profile while playing quickmatches.

Positive Skill Penalties: I've gone over all of the skills with a fine toothed comb and really restructured them with FUN in mind. I've replaced a lot of annoying or boring penalties with brand new positive penalties. The idea of positive penalties is that they improve your enemy rather than harm yourself. This makes the game more fun for both you and your enemy, and should make the gameplay funner, faster and a lot more interesting.

There's a whole lot more, but you can read all about that in the change log. Anyway hope you enjoy it, a new version with zombies will be out in just a few short weeks :D

Btw I found a small bug. I think I patched it before anyone updated their game, but if not you can just re download from the main site and replace the Subvein.exe file. Basically if you see your player constantly has a halo around him then you should re-download. I don't think anyone has this though.

Anyway speaking of bugs. This new version has a lot of new stuff in it so there are bound to be a few bugs and balance issues that need fixing. Please report anything you suspect and of course playtest and offer your suggestions to tweak and polish all these new skills we have.


EDIT: Oh yeah in case you were wondering I had to clear everyone's skills because of the Dash/Invis restructuring.

I have to say I'm very impressed with the netcode, really refreshing to have most of the aim issues aside. Though the gangsters are more annoying than ever >_>

Yup the netcode turned out really well I think. And I hardly notice the downside which is the occassional weird death. Just played for a few hours and even though there were only 4 of us I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to get more ppl on this weekend :D

Just played half-a-hour on bx_gangwars with Fruct. Outstanding work, Sir!
Guys... We saw them grouping into gangs, patrolling the streets, sniping from the roof, climbing ladders, ambushing from the corners, chasing you till their last breath... So many awesome things! Tons of new co-op gameplay, with simple "usual" bots! Gosh, so many cool things... Gotta... Plaayy... ze Gaem....

So first of all, some of my observations:
-Basically everything conerning bots, gangs and dota-style gameplay in subvein at the moment depends on HOW and WHERE you, dear map-makers, place your spawn-zones for our lovely bots. And that's a good thing. That means huge variety of maps, mini-gamemodes and (finnaly) new awesome types of gameplay. Love it.

-Overall game dynamic just got better. U need to keep an eye on surrounding objects, not only your pray. No more grinding, less camping (generaly speaking), better strategies and so on...

-Skills are... Not bad. Against bots - they're more than awesome; nice and balanced. Cant say anything about PvP aspect of new skills system atm, needs more testing.

-Back to magnificent bots, your majesty (yea that's how i'm going to call u from now on, sir Bencelot, u trully deserve it ^_^).
The fact that you can control bots is CRRRAZY! And it works dam it! Get 300k, buy 3 miniguns, give them to 3 bots and enjoy the show. Or give them shotguns, spas for example, quite entertaining too. If only we could unite them in squads... Groups of 5-6 bots would be pretty neat. Build your gang now, brothers and sisters! We're going to war >:3

So yeah, more additions to STM's to-do-list:
-Bots sitting in cars as passangers (if they could also shoot from their seats... stationary/mobile defence points! Do want!).
-Bots using skills. Have to admit, that would be damn hard to do but still, I'll just leave this pretty old idea here.
-Bots-leaders. Special type of gangsters with increased HP, damage and bigger hitbox. Right now a 6-8 bots squad isnt that much of a threat to common player, need something more powerful.

On a side-note: Bots on Downtown. Their spawns are too close to each other. Need a fix.

ps: They can find their way even on bx_Refuge! =O Holy firetruck!

love the changes with the bots, they are so much better. imo subvein is fun to play with nobody else on now :) . I like how the bots have a random chance to spawn with a better gun and have better tactise, ran around a corner to find a bot with a saw :shock: so much better. keep up the good work ben

but does vaporize not work with bots? I thought it did last version but not posotive, but it is not working with these bots. If I kill them nothing happens

Hehe yay, glad you guys love the AI changes so much. To be honest I was most excited about the new netcode for this version as the AI changes were mostly designed for the zombies. I will eventually allow bots to ride as passengers in cars, as that would be so insanely awesome. I could make the bot AI look for stationary cars with a driver and then hop into it. Imagine you're in your spawn zone, you buy a camper and instantly 3 bots run your way and hop into the seats. Then you drive off to the enemy base with them all firing out the windows, getting kills and awarding you a share of the xp :D Then when you eject from the vehicle they all hop out too and carnage ensures. So awesome.

As for bots using skills, that would be a loooooot harder. Might have to wait for that one :/

Also Vaporize no longer works with bots. A few other skills don't or have been nerfed hugely (micovolt). You'll see why when Outbreak comes out. These skills were massively OP.

My favorite change is the improved pathfinding, bots are awesome now. I love how they spawn with random guns to, the funniest thing is when to bots with knives get in a fight, they spin around each other until one finally dies, usually they both kill each other. Funnier than hell how they spin around, almost looks like their dancing

I updated properly after manually downloading.. Also, I need to redo my Axe mod, Because tile textures >_>

Also, Why doesn't infection affect gangsters? It was fun creating giant aids fields..

It downloaded just fine, But when I restarted the game to apply the new version, It started to download it again. I "Auto-Updated" about 3 times when I decided to update manually

Auto-update still not working properly for me. Tells me its downloaded, I click restart. .exe opened but with the old version, had to download from the .zip file.

Hey Ben,
don't have much time, just wanted to congratulate. The game is really nice. I like the improved UI and the added effects for example Plasma.
Game runs smoothly although I have only played against bots. The bots are quite nice now, still there is room for improvement (as always). I will update my maps for bot paths and play around a little to see what they are capable of. I've tested some skills and found Plasma suprisingly weak (against bots again), but maybe that is just my impression.

What is happening with the P and B Lag Comp values in the settings, are they still used because from what I understand of the new netcode is that they would put things out of whack a bit now, too far ahead in fact.

Heya Lung, long time no see :)

The P and B settings still work and don't put things out of whack. You're still best off putting those values to the max if you want the game to be as accurate as possible, or you're better putting them to 0 if you want it to be as smooth as possible.
