After 2 long months Subvein version 0.52 is finally here. Check out all the new goodies below and download it NOW!

21 NEW SKILLS!
You’ve been asking for months and here they finally are. 21 new skills!! The pride and joy of version 0.52 and man they are AWESOME! If you will, allow me just express my joy and excitement for these new skills with a simple groan: uunnnnnnnnnngh!! These skills are your ideas! They’re wacky and wonderful, and I can’t thank you enough for your help. The 3 skill trees are more defined, deep, powerful and exciting. The combinations are endless! Here’s a brief description of each one:

Kamikaze: Upon dying your body will explode, damaging nearby enemies.
Force Fields: Creates force fields on either side of you that block incoming bullets.
Bouncing Bullets: Works with Force Fields. Causes bullets that hit your Force Fields to bounce back and seek towards your enemies.
Corpse Construction: Everytime you kill an enemy your max hitpoints is increased. Resets upon death.
Support: Reduces incoming damage whenever you are standing near allies.
Frenzy: Temporarily increases your rate of fire whenever you hit an opponent.
Clip Magnet: Causes you to steal ammo from nearby enemies whenever you shoot.

Dash: Improves your sprint and invisibility speed.
Thunder Jump: Causes an electric pulse to shock out from your feet whenever you land from a height, stunning your enemies. The higher you fall the larger the pulse.
Black Hole: Creates a massive suction that pulls surrounding enemies in towards you.
Darkness: Works with Black Hole. Nearby enemies become blinded which causes their screen to fade to black.
Blade Fury: Spawns a number of sharp blades that spin around you causing high damage to enemies that come too close.
Silver Shield: Works with Blade Fury. Whenever you are hit by a bullet, Silver Shield will absorb some of the incoming damage into a Blade Fury blade.
Infection: Causes venom to spread amongst adjacent enemies.

Mana Drain: Restores your energy when damage is dealt to enemies.
Plasma Ball: Launches a ball of hot plasma that instantly deals high damage.
Splash Damage: Increases the explosive range of all Plasma based attacks.
Vaporize: Any enemies killed with Plasma will vaporize, leaving behind a boiling gas that deals damage to any enemies that walk through it.
SlowMo Speedup: Causes your bullets to travel faster through an enemy’s Bullet Time. Allied bullets also travel faster through your own Bullet Time.
Stolen Seekers: Converts all enemy bullets within range to become yours and then makes them turn around and seek towards the enemy.
Disable: Works with E-Bomb. All enemies stunned by E-Bomb lose weapon functionality and suffer a reduced rate of fire for a short period of time.

New and Improved Weapons!
Not only is there a brand new Bazooka to play around with, but all the weapons have been heavily balanced and improved, too. The days of Nailgun spamming are over. The super weapons no longer have unlimited ammo and the pricing structure has been redone. Weapons have a lot more recoil too, which means you need to shoot smarter with a greater focus on accuracy. No more spray and pray.

4 New Maps!
2 by me, 2 by fellow Subvein member swiss. I’ve got BX_Villa which is a tiny close quarters map somewhat similar to Counterstrike’s cs_italy, and BX_Silo which is a larger map set at a missile silo. Swiss has actually created his own texture map (which you can use) and made a Halo3 map pack! Check it OUT!

Sexy New Graphics and Sounds!
With extra gore, grenades exploding into balls of fire, new sounds for jumping, landing, killing enemies and more.. Subvein looks, feels, sounds and probably even smells better. Everyone loves graphics, especially when they enhance gameplay. I’ve made sure that every skill in the game is now visual. For example, the healing skills like Self Repair now spawn tiny glowing health orbs that spin around you.. so you can actually SEE your enemies heal themselves and act accordingly. It’s rocking, baby.

Enhanced Dedicated Server Support!
This is a big one. Even if you don’t host servers yourself, these new improvements will allow Subvein to be hosted all over the world! Think more servers, closer to home, less ping.. more carnage! There are 4 main improvements made:
You can now minimize Subvein to the system tray, meaning you can host your dedicated server in the background completely out of the way. That annoying console window has gone too.
When Subvein is minimized it doesn’t render graphics meaning it uses almost 0% CPU usage.
You can now click on “Subvein Autostart.cmd” to instantly setup a Subvein server with just 1 click! You can save the settings you’d like to use in “data/config.ini”. This is not only convenient, but it means truely dedicated hosting is possible as it doesn’t even require you to be at the computer to setup a game.
Dedicated Servers can now spectate the game. Just for fun.

Smoother Usability Options!
Subvein 0.52 includes a LOT of new usability and interface improvements to make your playing experience faster, smoother and more intuitive. The algorithm for picking up weapons has been optimised to make selecting and picking up powerful weapons easier. Grenades and ammo now automatically pickup when you walk over them. You can now autocast skills with a single button press! You can configure mouse buttons to autocast skills even faster!! You can quick-switch faster between weapons, too. The order that you unlocked your skills in remembered. Finally, your current skills and weapons are permanently displayed up the top of the screen, allowing you to easily see what you’ve got, if it’s available for use, and what key it’s under.

Vital Gameplay Tweaks and Features!
Widescreen support has been added, meaning no more stretched out screen!
Improvements to the server lobby and new hosting options.
Server notifications whenever someone changes their name.
Super Weapons no longer have unlimited ammo.
Flash bangs have less of an effect if you look away from them.
The mutation levelling curve is now faster, meaning you can reach higher levels sooner.
Skill Synergies occur every 20 levels, not every 10.
Max mutation in Battle servers is now 30, max respect is now only 5, and max credits is now only 200000.
Mercenaries only add 500 credits to their combo for each kill instead of 1000.
Gangsters deal less damage.
The default taunts have been reworded to be more useful AND sexy.
Spectator mode carries over from round to round.

Sexy Skill Balancing!
Self Repair now costs more and takes longer to recharge.
Regen slightly weaker.
Vampirism slightly weaker.
Vampirism and Regeneration have switched skill trees.
Invisibility no longer hides other skills like bullet time or forcefields.
Bullet Time costs less, has a smaller range, and more of an effect on bullets + bug fixes. No longer affects venom.
Weapon Handling significantly weaker.
Critical Shot significantly weaker.
Energize significantly weaker, costs less and recharges faster.
Venom Shot is weaker and travels slower.
Electro Pulse is now known as E-Bomb, costs more, has a smaller range, less stun time, is thrown forwards like a grenade, and unlocks at level 10.
Shield now costs less and recharges faster but lasts for a shorter duration. Protects you from venom. Now unlocks at level 20.
Bullet Rupture deals less damage but now explodes in all directions. Now unlocks at level 20.

Wonderful Weapon Balancing!
Knife: More damage.
Grenade: Greater Explode Range. Costs More. Heavier.
USP: Switches faster. Bullets are more visible.
Deagle: Costs less.
Shock Revolver: Weighs Less. No longer has unlimited ammo.
SPAS-12: Costs more. Greatly improved to compete with 2nd tier weapons.
Blast Cannon: Now explodes on impact. Bigger Clip. Deals most damage in the game. Costs more. No longer has unlimited ammo.
UZI: Costs less. More recoil.
MP5: Costs less. More recoil.
Nailgun: Costs more. More recoil. No longer has unlimited ammo.
AK47: Bullets travel slightly faster.
M4A1: Costs less. Bullets are more visible.
Seek Rifle: Fires Faster. Better seeking. No longer has unlimited ammo.
M249: Costs less. Less Damage. Faster Bullets. Way more recoil.
M60: Way more recoil.
Minigun: Way more recoil. No longer has unlimited ammo. Costs more.
M24: Bit more damage and bullet speed.
PSG-1: Costs more. More damage.
Railgun: More damage. Bigger Clip. No longer has unlimited ammo.

Beautiful Bug Fixes!
Missions with targets won’t display an arrow if the player is invisible.
Fixed a typing bug where weird characters would appear on certain keyboards. Also added caps lock support.
The leaders tab in Battle mode now always shows the correct leader.
Fixed a few bugs to do with profiles in the menu.
Fixed a bug which prevented you from hosting other people’s maps which use custom textures.
Fixed a display bug with some country flags.
Bullet Time is better on laggy servers.
Fixed a shadow glitch and a collision exploit in BX_Keep.
Fixed gangster spawn zones in BX_Subway.
Fixed falling off the edge of the dam in BX_Hydro.

but ive got 3 problems
1)When I have chosen some skils during the first game and have disconnected and join server again then, when I have returned these skills have been saved and I could not try other new combinations...i mean u need to add some function that will let player to rearrenge skills, or just let him to start game from the beginning with first lvl...
2)ive tryed to play with my friend but he could not join server created by me becouse he could not see it.even creating of dedicated server hasn't helped
3)my best loved combination of shotgun with paralysing skill(dont remember how it was named)that stop everybody around u, was broken becouse of e-bomb that cooler than first skill, but become available only on 10 lvl(((

ps:on 10 lvl kamekadze has been really nice)

1 That happed even in the last realise of the game here are some hints on how to rselve the prob:
1.Restart the map then everybody will be resested
2.Play on another "profile/acount" ::when you start the game or just create and load a new acount from the main menu::

1. Make sure that the option "show in lobby" is checked or the server will not be avalible in lobby
2.Just give your IP to the other person and ask him to join the game via direct IP
3.Close any AntiVirus , firewall when hosting an internet the game they cold block connections

LoL its better this way trust me ... Shileld got the same treatment and you don't see me coplaining. And since you need 2 wait 10 levels gives you more options on witch weapond to use in combination with that skill.

2) If Mumu's suggestions don't work, chances are you haven't forwarded your ports. This is necessary for your friend to join your server (unless you're on LAN).

hey, bencelot, when are u going to begin developing ver 0.53? and if its not a secret, can u explain how to edit skills or create new? ive already tried to edit guns, and thats was fun(the best gun ive created was shotgun with 360 shot,but with small range(about 2 meters) and uzi shooting twice faster then minigun, but its bullets was twice slower then running player)), but editing skills or some others aspects of the game is even cooler)

You can't edit skills at the moment. Skills are more inbuilt into the game and can't act as independantly as weapons so it's tricky to do properly from a simple text file.

Version 0.53 will be a small version.. mostly just a bug fix and weapon balance version, and I've already begun work on it. I've already fixed about 20 bugs! Other things to look forward to are a proper installer, automatic ingame updating, and of course new maps. :D

It should come out in a couple weeks.

ok,no problem,but it will be cool if u'll put skills in some text file like weapons,and if u want u may tell the secret of editing game only to some choosen))
and in what ver and when are u going to add vicihle?balance is cool , but for fans is much more interesting adding new content=P

then I skip 0.54, 0.55, 0.56, 0.57, 0.58, 0.59 and go straight to version 0.6, which will have vehicles. Version 0.6 will will be a BIG one. Far far bigger improvement to the game than 0.52 was. It'll completely change the way the game works because of the vehicles, along with a whole bunch of other things that'll take Subvein to the next level. ;)

By improving skills like Support, Force Fields, Bouncing Bullets, Thunder Jump, Darkness, Critical Shot and Energize you'll suddenly find yourself with a lot more skills to choose from.

Upon releasing 0.53 the community should grow. The idea is that 0.53 comes out and over the next couple months everyone has a golly good time and the game grows a lot in terms of players. This means that when 0.6 comes out there's a LARGE player base ready to jump straight into it. Sure a few players will come and go over that period of time.. but because they'll have heard about it, when 0.6 comes out with VEHICLES, they'll be back.

A proper installer is also coming in this version. You may be thinking "so what? I know how to open the game just fine already.." but it really should make a big difference to you because a proper installer = more players. Think about it.. you're a new player: you download the game, unzip it, play it, like it. Now chances are you either unzipped it to your desktop or to your downloads folder. If you really like the game like we do, then of course you move it to a special location or you create a shortcut to put on the desktop or whatever, and it's not a problem.

But if you're a more casual player, you'll probably forget about it. You might play it once or twice again, but sooner or later you'll decide to clean up your desktop and when you see the Subvein folder you think to yourself.. "do I REALLY want to have this extra folder sitting here for the rest of my life?? Am I ready for that sort of a COMMITMENT!?" and chances are they just delete it. The bastards. Anyway, not anymore! Now Subvein stays on your computer forever, and it's easier to startup and play. HOORAY!


Anyway a progress report:
As of last night I've fixed every single bug that's been brought to my attention (which I think is all of them).

Today is all about tweaking the skills and weapons.

Then all I have to do is create a proper installer (easy) and ingame automatic updating (not sure how easy).

Then a couple maps and finish the youtube video.

Then a simultanious release of v0.53 and the youtube video, so that when we go out into the web and inform them of the juicy free greatness available to them we can link to the gameplay video to get them all hot and bothered. YAY!




Lenivka, you can't create extra weapons. Only edit them. And incase you didn't read the whole thing above.. vehicles in 0.6 in about 2 months.

its really a pretty bad idea of trying to add skills into a text fiole or something that will have a password or some sort of encryption on it because chances are (knowing the internet and people who make cracks for games, operating systems, etc. within weeks or days are on it) that will be cracked open pretty quickly seeing as i doubt bencelot would be better at encrypting data than the people who get six to 7 figure salaries to try and stop it from happening to their billion dollar making software (no offence intended bencelot), and if he decides to use some program from somewhere on the internet chances are that it already has a crack available somewhere on the internet for it too.

So if you think that your data is 100% secure ever than you are seriously mistaken and all that someone can really do is negate the risk to an acceptable level and just hope that it doesn't become comprimised.


And ben i think this auto update idea is great and could be done like this:

(this is all before the game loads up like as an subveinupdate.exe or something and could optionally check for updates or something and have a checkbox for autosarting after looking for updates)

--------get the new files from server and update the game and restart (like the svn program tortoise svn gets them or something)
----Else
--------Display "Your up to date!" and continue to load the game and go to menu
